The Czech team are in a strong position in their Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against Romania, having cruised to a 1-0 lead. Radek Stepanek got the Czech team off to an ideal start this morning, thrashing Adrian Ungur in three sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-0).

Tomas Berdych will now be looking to double the advantage, as he prepares to take on Victor Crivoi. Things are looking bleak for Romania, as Crivoi is ranked two-hundred places below Berdych, and seems to be a no-hoper here.

Berdych has been in good form throughout the 2011 season, despite failing to win an ATP title. The only potential worry here for the Czech side is that Berdych will succumb to the shoulder injury that has blighted him in recent weeks.

Should the world No. 9 remain injury-free, the Czech Republic will be well placed to have this tie effectively finished in two days. Crivoi is unlikely to have a say in the outcome of this match, even with the support of the home crowd.
