Tomas Berdych is closing in on the Gerry Weber Open title, and will face Philipp Petzschner on Saturday in the semi-finalsYou can watch and bet on the action from the ATP Halle Open at bet365Tomas Berdych is searching for his first ATP title of the season, and now stands only two wins away from winning ATP Halle. The world No. 7 appears to be getting to grips with the adjustment to grass court tennis, and showed signs of his Wimbledon runner-up form in his 7-6(3), 6-1 victory over fifth seed Viktor Troicki on Friday.
Berdych’s next challenge will be a semi-final clash against the unseeded Philipp Petzschner. Petzschner is thriving here in front of a supportive crowd, and is clearly more of a threat than his ranking of 71st in the world suggests. The German upset the odds on Friday to get past Milos Raonic (6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3), and shouldn’t be written off here.
Berdych lost to Petzschner the last time the pairing met in Germany, though he got back at him with a straight sets victory in Dubai this season. Overall, Berdych has a 3-1 head to head record against Petzschner, and is widely considered to be the favourite. That said, Petzschner is playing with real confidence here, and Saturday’s match could be a close one.
