This could be called a big upset but really with Berdych's poor form post-Wimbledon, a first round exit to Michael Llodra is not surprising.

Tomas Berdych was way off form heading into the 2010 US Open as he failed to make the semis at either ATP Toronto or ATP Cincinnati.  Michael Llodra, the player who knocked Berdych out on the other hand, actually has two titles this season from Marseilles and Eastbourne - a pretty impressive tally for a 30 year old who has never been a major threat for titles.

Llodra's section of the draw has to be considered to be completely WIDE OPEN until the quarters as any one of these players might realistically face Andy Murray in that quarter's final:

  • Michael Llodra
  • Victor Hanescu
  • Tommy Robredo
  • Julien Benneteau
  • John Isner
  • Xavier Malisse
  • Mikhail Youzhny

There is not a great deal between any of these players right now on tour although Youzhny, by seeding, is the top player in that bottom half of Murray's quarter.
