With Kim Clijsters out of the draw, Svetlana Kuznetsova now has a draw to the title at the UNICEF Open, at least by seeding.
Svetlana Kuznetsova is a player who has some momentum right now as the two-time Grand Slam champion is back up to 12th in the WTA rankings. She has a chance to seize even more momentum as the Russian appears to have a somewhat reasonable draw to a title at this week's UNICEF Open.
Kim Clijsters, the top seeded player in the tournament, suffered an upset loss in the second round of the event and as a result Kuznetsova is now the highest ranked player remaining in the event. She'll face Sara Errani of Italy in the second round on Wednesday ahead of a possible match-up against Dominika Cibulkova.
Kuznetsova and Errani have met twice before on tour with the Russian taking down both matches, both of which were played on the hard court surface.
Errani headed into the grass court season after enjoying a moderately successful clay court season however she has something to prove at this point. She was part of WTA Birmingham last week and she lost her second round match to Marina Erakovic, a player ranked 151st on tour at the time of the match. That kind of loss really discredits Errani's grass court skills despite the fact that she played well during the clay court season with two semifinal appearances.
Kuznetsova has not played a match on grass yet this season with the exception of her first round match at the UNICEF Open. In that match she cruised to a straight sets victory over Arantxa Rus, a player who was playing in front of a home crowd.
Despite limited grass court play recently, the Russian looks good to beat Errani just based on the Italian's poor performance from last week and their head to head record from previous tournaments.
The match is scheduled to start not Before 2:30 PM (CET) on Center Court from the 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.
