Svetlana Kuznetsova plays Virginie Razzano on day two of Russia's Fed Cup tie against France.
Kuznetsova came into the tie full of confidence after a decent run at the Australian Open and she was preferred to the higher ranked but inexperienced teenager Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for the opening rubber on day one.
However the decision backfired as France's number one Alize Cornet stunned Kuznetsova 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and the French ended the day 2-0 up.
The Russian team will have to hope Maria Sharapova can raise her game to see off Cornet in Sunday's opening rubber and keep them in with a slim chance.
Kuznetsova has a 3-1 head-to-head record against Razzano but they have not played since 2004 and the Frenchwoman (who has only slipped to her current ranking of 83 through injury) looked in brilliant form on day one, taking Sharapova out in straight sets.
Will the Russian captain keep faith with Kuznetsova or will he give Pavlyuchenkova a chance to shine ? The world's top ranked teenager has won her only previous match against Razzano, 6-4, 6-1 on a very similar surface in Paris two years ago.
