Svetlana Kuznetsova takes on Dominika Cibulkova in round four of the US Open today.

Kuznetsova has looked very impressive in the past three rounds and had far too much power for Maria Kirilenko on Saturday, crushing her compatriot 6-3, 6-4. After an unconvincing first half of 2010, Kuznetsova seems to be striking form again this summer, winning the San Diego title and making the Montreal semis. Her half of the draw is very open and having won the US Open in 2004 and made another final in 2007, she has it in her to go all the way.

It's good to see Cibulkova making inroads in a slam again after a lean spell for the Slovak since her surprise run to the French Open semis last year. She has done it the hard way, fighting off match points in a second round win over Kateryna Bondarenko.

However Kuznetsova will be the first top drawer opponent she's faced at this tournament and it's hard to see her making inroads against the Russian's powerful serve and forehand. Kirilenko, a counter-puncher in the Cibulkova mould, had very little joy trying to wear Kuznetsova down in the last round.

Kuznetsova has won three of their four matches though Cibulkova scored a 7-5, 6-2 upset win in Sydney at the start of 2010.
