Two breaks in both the first and second sets and another in game four of the third took Federer to victory and the final 32 of Wimbledon, with Federer finding success in an hour and a half.
"Today was a good match," said Federer. "I definitely didn't have to play my very best but it was solid and that's exactly what I needed today."
"There are many rounds to go for guys to have a crack at me, with nothing to lose, but if I can keep up my level I'll get through. I'm confident and I hope it's going to last for a while now."
