Stakhovsky has been in blistering form in the past couple of rounds, taking out Tommy Robredo 7-6, 6-2 in round three and then Marcos Baghdatis 5-7, 6-1, 7-6. He simply played the big points better than Baghdatis, saving twelve of fifteen break points.

However he admitted at the end that he was exhausted after having to play both matches on Thursday and it remains to be seen whether this will jeopardise his chances. De Bakker in contrast, swept past Evgeny Korolev 6-4, 6-3 and will be the fresher of the two players by far.
