Serena Williams aims to reach her sixth Wimbledon final when she takes on Petra Kvitova in Thursday’s semi-finals.

Williams has looked every inch a defending champion so far this week, cruising into the semi-finals without dropping a set. The American has been tested in the last couple of rounds by Maria Sharapova and Li Na but her renowned fighting spirit saw her through some tough moments in both matches.
She beat Kvitova 6-2, 6-1 when they last met at the Australian Open earlier in the year but will be expecting a much tougher match after the Czech youngster’s stunning run so far.
Kvitova dispatched third seed Caroline Wozniacki and Vika Azarenka for the loss of just eleven games earlier in the tournament before fighting past Kaia Kanepi in the quarters, saving five match points in an epic encounter which went to 8-6 in the third.
Looking ahead to the match, Williams was full of praise for her 20 year old opponent, currently ranked 62 in the world, saying, "She's a good player. I've actually thought she would get through in the early rounds. I'm not surprised that I'm playing her. She is lefty. She's really, really good.”
The American is overwhelming favourite to claim her fourth Wimbledon crown come Saturday after a string of huge upsets but she has been quick to rebuke any suggestions she has one hand on the trophy.
Nevertheless, expect Serena to ease into the final in straight sets.
