Serena Williams will get her second week of Wimbledon 2011 underway with a fourth round showdown against Marion Bartoli

Serena Williams began her Wimbledon campaign this year by grinding out two difficult three-set victories, but demonstrated why she’s a four-time champion in round three by shrugging off the challenge of Maria Kirilenko (6-3, 6-2). It would seem that Williams is getting back towards her best form, and her presence in the second week will certainly be considered a major threat to the major contenders here.

Williams will now take on ninth seed Marion Bartoli in round four. Bartoli is a former-finalist, and promises to be Williams’s toughest opponent this year to date. Whilst Bartoli fell well short in her two previous attempts to defeat Serena, there’s a chance that she’ll be able to raise her game on Monday.

It would be an incredible achievement if Serena could win her fifth Wimbledon title here, and this contest should tell us a lot about her chances. Her performance against Kirilenko seemed to indicate that she’s not far from her best, but it’s hard to assess how this match will pan out.
