Serena Williams continued her relentless push towards the U.S Open title on Thursday, brushing aside the challenge of seventeenth seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets (7-5, 6-1). Williams still hasn’t lost a set here, and she appears to be the standout player left in the pack. There are many pundits expecting the American to clinch her

Williams has a semi-final clash with world number one Caroline Wozniacki fixed for Friday, weather permitting. Wozniacki fought off a second set comeback from tenth seed Andrea Petkovic to clinch a 6-1, 7-6(5) success, and will now be aiming to produce a career-defining performance to propel herself towards a maiden slam title.

Williams and Wozniacki met twice in 2009, and Williams currently holds a 2-0 head to head record against the Dane. Both matches were close battles, and it would seem that Friday’s semi-final has the makings of a classic. The three-time U.S Open champion is being tipped to win, but the top seed will have a point to prove, and should be ready to give Williams a hard time.
