Having been seeded 28th for this event, Williams has been handed a fairly decent draw. Despite the fact that she may have to face Victoria Azarenka in round three, the world No. 29 should be able to reach the latter stages if she can get past the Belarusian. Williams defeated her in the semi-finals in Toronto, so there’s a decent chance that she can beat her again.
Williams will get her title charge underway with a first round matchup against Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia. Jovanovski is the world No. 54, and has the ability to be a future star of the WTA. She’ll need to be at her best to stand a chance against Williams though, and it doesn’t seem like there’s much potential for an upset on Tuesday.
