Serena Williams and Ana Ivanovic will take part in an eagerly awaited fourth round clash tonight in this year’s U.S Open

Serena Williams has maintained her breathtaking run of form this week by storming into the latter stages of the U.S Open. The former world No. 1 had been pitted against fourth seed Victoria Azarenka in round three, in a match that had been billed as a major obstacle in her Flushing Meadows title charge. The pressure of the challenge seemed to have little or no effect on Serena though, and she blazed through with a 6-1, 7-6 victory.

Her next opponent will be a fellow former world No. 1, Ana Ivanovic. Ivanovic knows what it feels like to win a slam, and finally appears to have overcome the problems that caused her to drop out of the top fifty last season. Her work with new coach Nigel Sears seems to have helped her to up her game once again, and there’s an outside chance that Williams’s excellent run here will be cut short.

If Williams wins tonight it will be her second victory against Ivanovic in the U.S Open. The Serb has never beaten Williams, and didn’t come close in either of the two matches that the pairing played against each other. Williams appears to be unstoppable right now, and with this in mind also, the chances of Ivanovic scraping an upset are slim.
