Don't be sucker for the top ranked player.

Serena Williams is currently the second favorite to win the 2010 French Open title for singles however that may be changing soon.

At present Williams' best price to win the clay court Slam that is quickly approaching is with bet365 who have her priced at +600 (6/1) in the outright winner's market.

Williams is the worst pick that you can make at this point for the top 5 contenders as her odds have the worst value.  She has not won the event since before Henin burst onto the scene on clay and Williams' only singles title at Roland Garros is from eight years ago in 2002.

She is the top ranked player in the world and that does mean she can expect a draw with no serious threats until the quarterfinals but after that Williams will be in tough matches.

Williams lost her WTA Rome match to Jelena Jankovic, a player who is providing good value to win the French Still, although her odds are currently shortening (+800 Ladbrokes).

Sometimes sports punters pick a player for the wrong reason.  Williams may be the number 1 player in the world but she is more like the number 5 player in the world when it comes to clay court success.

Last year Williams fell in the quarterfinals to Svetlana Kuznetsova and that is as far as you should expect Williams to go this year as well.  You have to love Williams and her desire to win Slams but that desire has not lead to success at the French Open in 8 years now and it's not a fluke as clay is NOT the surface to back the American star.
