With a combination of crashing serves and brutal groundstrokes, Serena Williams dominated her semi-final matchup against Caroline Wozniacki on Saturday. The American has defied her seeding throughout the two weeks in New York, and has been the standout player in the women’s draw. She has a tough match against Samantha Stosur ahead in the final, but the Australian seems to be in need of a breathtaking performance if she’s going to lift her first slam title.

Serena appears to be back to her best, and this was evident in her performance against the world No. 1. Serena’s game was littered with a number of unforced errors, but this was merely a consequence of the aggressive tennis that enabled her to make light work of Wozniacki. The Dane was barely able to stamp any sort of mark on the contest, five winners were all she could muster when faced with the challenge of the tournament
favourite.

So what of Stosur’s chances? Well, the former French Open finalist has beaten Williams
twice, but lost to her on four occasions. Williams has a more natural hard court game, but Stosur has looked a more confident competitor in recent months. The 27 year-old is weaker in most departments when compared to Williams, but if she can utilise her big serve and threatening forehand she’ll stand a chance.
