Seppi had been about to serve for the match at 7-6(5), 3-6, 5-3, when Tipsarevic decided to withdraw due to injury.
Seppi and Tipsarevic both had to play twice on Saturday, as Friday’s play was cancelled due to weather conditions. Both players were keen to put on a show in the final though, and the fans were treated to an exciting showdown. Seppi had only won seven matches this season prior to this competition, and his determination to continue his run of form was evident throughout.
For Tipsarevic, the result of this contest leaves him with a 0-3 record in ATP finals. The world No. 30 seems destined to eventually win a title, though he’ll be getting frustrated with his inability thus far to convert final appearances into trophy wins. On the other hand, the Serb’s ranking is currently at a career high, and he’s enjoying a successful season.
