Santiago Giraldo and Tommy Robredo have played superbly this week, and will meet today in the final of the Movistar Open
Santiago Giraldo and Tommy Robredo both emerged from tough semi-finals to earn themselves a place in today’s Movistar Open final. Eighth seed Giraldo upset the odds to beat No. 5 seed Potito Starace in three sets, and perhaps will be glad that the Italian was pushed to his limits by Horacio Zeballos in the quarters. Robredo produced a solid performance against No. 7 seed Fabio Fognini in the semi’s, coming back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
This pairing last met in the first round of this year’s Australian Open. Giraldo won the match comfortably, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, though things might turn out a little differently on the clay of Santiago. Robredo has been anything but a pushover this week, and will be keen to avenge his defeat with a victory here.
Robredo is considered to be the favourite here, and enters the match as the higher ranked and seeded player. Despite this, Giraldo might just be able to get one over on the Spaniard if he can find his rhythm early on. Giraldo will be vying for a maiden ATP Tour title, whilst Robredo is aiming for his first title since 2009.
