Santiago Giraldo faces a tough match against Igor Andreev in round two of the ATP Santiago Open

Santiago Giraldo battled back from a set down against Facundo Bagnis in round one to claim a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory. The fightback has set Giraldo up for a second round clash against Igor Andreev, a former world No. 18. Giraldo is the No. 8 seed this week, but may have to dig deep to earn himself a place in the quarters.

Andreev produced a solid performance in his first round match to defeat Eduardo Schwank 6-3, 7-6(4). The Russian might prove to be a genuine contender for the title here, though it’s been a while since he last won a competition. Giraldo will enter this match as a slight favourite, but an Andreev victory would not be a shock result.

These two players have met once previously in official competition, though this match took place on a hard court back in 2007. Andreev won the match in straight sets. It seems unwise to read too much into this as Giraldo was only 19 years old at the time, and has since made great improvements to his game.
