Sam Stosur is in action against Petra Kvitova on Rod Laver Arena as the third round of the Australian Open comes to a close.
Stosur appears to be finding her best form just at the right time as the first week of action in Melbourne concludes. She powered past Russia's Vera Dushevina 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday, slamming 26 winners in the process, many of them off her lethal forehand wing.
The business end of the tournament approaches and Stosur is desperate to improve on her previous best showing in Melbourne, reaching the fourth round last year. She is aware that the further she goes the more the excitement will build but she says she is trying not to think about it.
"You know, it's one of those things, yes, I'd love to do it, all that, but it's not something I can go to bed thinking about each night. You have to think about all of the things you have to do to get to that point rather than the end result. I guess it's work in progress," she told the media.
Kvitova made a name for herself at Wimbledon last year, powering her way to the semi-finals. The tall left-hander struggled to live up to expectations for the rest of the season but she made a stunning start to 2011, winning the Brisbane title. She's made a fine start to this tournament, defeating former world number five Anna Chakvetadze 6-3, 6-4 in the last round.
