Verdasco recently slipped down to eleven in the rankings after failing to defend all his points from the Australian Open. The Spaniard could not quite repeat that semi-final run of 2009, losing an epic five setter against Nikolay Davydenko in the fourth round. On the face of it Verdasco looks to have a kind draw which should take him to the semi-finals without too much trouble provided he adapts to the surface. His first opponent Yen-Hsun Lu has never troubled the top 50 and currently languishes at 113 in the rankings.
