Andy Roddick did not have a break point all match but edged a tough match over Sam Querrey to reach the SAP Open final in San Jose.

Querrey stormed through the first set and seemed on course for a shock victory but Roddick stayed tough and upped his level on serve before snatching the next two sets in close tiebreaks to win 2-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4).

It was hard not to feel sympathy for Querrey who hit 32 aces during the match and did not face a single break point.

"It's a little tough to lose when you don't give up a break point but that's what happens, especially against a player like Andy on a fast indoor court," he said.

Roddick commended Querrey’s serving saying that for most of the match he was just hanging in there.

"I wasn't close to breaking him until parts of the third; my whole goal in the second set was the hold on and get it to a [tie] breaker,” he said. “A match can turn real fast; you don't have to play the best of it for the whole time. You can swing a match in a couple of minutes; I felt that's what I was able to do tonight."
