Recaps the achievements of Ryan Harrison from Indian Wells 2011 and speculates on his ranking for Monday March 21st.
Ryan Harrison was very impressive at ATP Indian Wells 2011 this season as he did some damage by rattling off three victories in the main draw after receiving a Wild Card to compete in the event. Harrison has longed been tipped as a future star as he is one of the youngest players to ever win a match on tour.
Furthermore at the 2010 US Open, Harrison eliminated Ivan Ljubicic in the first round, a player who was ranked in the top 20 at the time.
The 18 year old American was not able to best Roger Federer in the round of 16 at Indian Wells but even with a fourth round loss, Harrison will rise with the new ATP rankings on Monday.
Currently in 157th place on tour, Harrison will gain 155 ranking points for his fourth round appearance at the BNP Paribas Open. That's 180 ranking points for his placement this year subtracted by 25 ranking points that drop off for his achievements at Indian Wells last year.
The net gain may be enough to put him in the top 100 on tour although it could be very close.
Very young talents on the ATP Tour that are often mentioned are Grigor Dmitrov, the 19 year old Bulgarian, and Milos Raonic, the 20 year old Canadian.
However with Harrison younger than both of those players and likely soon to be into the top 100, whether directly with Indian Wells or by virtue of a later event this season, American tennis appears to have a future star as well.
For all the attention that Raonic and Dmitrov have attracted it is a point worth making that Harrison's rise into the top 100 is relatively faster.
