Roger Federer takes on Tomas Berdych in the Rogers Cup quarter-finals tonight.

It is a repeat of their Wimbledon clash where Berdych ended Federer’s hopes of winning his seventh crown at the All England Club, in the quarter-finals. It was the first time Federer had not made the Wimbledon final since 2002.

Before 2010, Federer had beaten Berdych eight times in a row and the Swiss’ hold over the Czech seemed to be complete. Even when Berdych led by two sets to love when they met in the 2009 Aussie Open he did not seem to believe he could finish it off.

However that has all changed this year. First Berdych won a desperately tight encounter 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 in Miami and then 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in that Wimbledon match.

Federer has looked very assured so far this week, winning both his matches in straight sets and he will be desperate to get revenge. Berdych struggled slightly in round three, needing three sets to see of Aleksandr Dolgopolov but he will raise his game for the Swiss.
