Roger Federer plays Robin Soderling in the US Open quarter-finals on Arthur Ashe court tonight.

Federer gets his chance to avenge his French Open defeat to Soderling in the pick of the men's quarter-final matches. Soderling ended the 2009 champion's reign early in the quarter-finals back in June with a shock 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 win, his first against Federer in 13 matches.
It resulted in another run to the final for the Swede, the culmination of an incredible twelve months which have seen him break the world's top 5 and become one of the tour's most feared players.

However beating Federer in New York will be an altogether more difficult task. The Swiss knocked him out at this stage last year and is much more dangerous on the fast hard courts as he can go from defence to attack so much faster, something he excels at with his lighting fast court coverage and shot-making on the run.

This is a problem for Soderling who possesses a huge amount of natural power but is not a great mover. To have a chance the Swede has to serve well and must keep the points short but Federer will be strong favourite.

However Soderling is relishing the prospect. “It's matches like this that you train for," he said. "It's matches like that I've been dreaming of playing since I started playing tennis, playing at the big courts in the big tournaments. It's very fun."
