Federer and Petzschner are both yet to drop a set this week. Federer’s toughest test to date came in the quarters against Philipp Kohlschreiber. Federer was not at his best but his grass court prowess came through at the key moments to seal a 7-5, 6-3 win.
Petzschner’s serve-volley game is tailor-made for grass and he has been relishing competing in front of his home crowd this week. He did very well to take out Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round and since then has not looked back.
However Federer is in a completely different class to all of Petzschner’s previous opponents. The Swiss’ returning is often an underrated part of his game particularly against serve-volleyers and it is hard to see Petzschner avoiding getting broken at least once per set.
