Roger Federer takes on Paul-Henri Mathieu on day six of the US Open 2010 at Flushing Meadows.

It's third round action and the US Open is starting to get serious as the second week approaches. Federer has looked totally serene and untroubled so far but he should get his first proper test against Frenchman Mathieu who used to be ranked in the world's top 15.
Federer is the only player still in the draw who's won the title and the Swiss feels that is a crucial advantage. He admits he is very keen to put one over his critics who suggested his slam winning days were over after Wimbledon this year.

“Maybe there is an extra incentive for me to try to win it (the US Open) again after being two points away last year. It was a disappointing loss for me," he said. "I felt like that was one of the finals I should have never lost. At the end, Del Potro played great and deserved the victory. It was a tough one to swallow. But I've had a bit of an up and down season so far. I've won the Australian Open, so I have a chance to win a second one (Grand Slam tournament) this season. There's still a lot to play for. That's why I'm excited to be back in New York and feeling great." 

Mathieu stunned former champion Lleyton Hewitt in the first round and backed that up with a straight sets victory against compatriot Guillaume Rufin. It has been mainly a poor 2010 for Mathieu but he's raised his game for the slams, making the fourth round of Wimbledon.
However Federer has won all four of his previous matches with Mathieu, only dropping one set. It's likely to be another straight sets progression for the Swiss into the last 16.
