Federer is just two wins away from defending his Cincinnati title and with Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic already out, his chances look good.
Federer had some moments of concern against Nikolay Davydenko in the quarters but rode them out to come through 6-4, 7-5.
Baghdatis enjoyed one of the best moments of his career when he stunned Rafael Nadal 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in Friday's night session. Baghdatis was serving huge, firing 18 aces while Nadal paid for an erratic display, making an uncharacteristic 40 unforced errors. Baghdatis joined forces again with former coach Guillaume Peyre at the start of the summer and it is proving very effective, he will be a force to be reckoned with at the US Open.
Federer leads 6-1 on the head-to-head against Baghdatis, most notably denying the Cypriot in the 2006 Australian Open final – 5-7, 7-5, 6-0, 6-2 and also in Cincinnati in 2007. Federer won 7-6, 7-5 in the third round back then and went on to win the title. However Baghdatis claimed his first ever win over Federer in Indian Wells earlier this year, winning a dramatic clash 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 and after that win over Nadal his confidence will be sky-high.
