Roger Federer faces a tough quarter-final clash against Jurgen Melzer on Friday in the Monte Carlo Rolex MastersYou can watch and bet on the action from the ATP Monte Carlo Open at bet365Roger Federer has produced some great tennis this week, losing only ten games in his opening two matches. Having received a first round bye, the former world No. 1 will now face Jurgen Melzer in the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters. If he can reproduce the form that enabled him to glide past Philipp Kohlschreiber and Marin Cilic, the second seed has every chance of making the final four.
Melzer lost his first set here, against Robin Haase in round two. After this minor blip, the Austrian has been impressive, winning his final two sets against Haase at the expense of only three games, and beating Nicolas Almagro 6-1, 6-4. Almagro has looked dangerous on clay this season, making Melzer’s achievement even more commendable.
Federer met Melzer three times last season, and currently holds a 3-0 head to head record against him. Whilst none of these matches were on clay, this record seems to suggest that Federer will have the upper hand on Friday. Despite this, there’s a chance that Melzer might snatch a result if his recent form is anything to go by.
