Roger Federer will look to continue his smooth US Open progress against Israel’s Dudi Sela.
Federer is a master of cruising through the early rounds with the minimum of effort and another straight sets demolition should be on the cards today.
When Sela first came on the scene, many predicted him to have the talent to reach the top of the game. He got to the top 30 a couple of years ago and I remember him once shocking Andy Roddick at Queens but that’s as good as its got. He had to come from two sets down to beat Thomaz Bellucci in the first round, not the kind of performance which will scare the Swiss.
The only thing which may perturb Federer as he looks towards this match, is that many newspapers are describing Sela as a veteran, a little harsh given he’s only 26 and it’ll make the 30 year old Federer feel positively ancient.
Sela simply does not have the venom in his shots to trouble the five time champion and expect a similar scoreline to the last time they met. Federer won 6-1, 6-4, 6-0 at the 2009 French Open.
