Roger Federer takes on David Ferrer on Saturday afternoon for a place in his seventh ATP World Tour Finals final.
It's a repeat of the 2007 final where Federer obliterated Ferrer 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, a match which redefined the way many of the leading players play the game according to a number of coaches.
Ferrer's played some fine tennis this week but if he's going to make a second final at this event he's going to have to do something he's never done before. Federer has won all eleven of their previous matches on the tour and most of them pretty comfortably. Ferrer has only ever won three sets against his nemesis and two of them were on clay. When they played in the round robin stages of this event last year, Federer cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win.
The Swiss star's 6-3, 6-0 obliteration of Rafa Nadal on Tuesday sent shockwaves through the draw and he kept the momentum going with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Mardy Fish on Thursday to finish top of Group B.
Federer also has the advantage of a day's rest going into this match. Ferrer ended up locked in a three set tussle with Tomas Berdych which went on late into Friday evening and he ended up suffering his first defeat of the week. Ferrer led by a set and a break but the match slipped through his fingers as Berdych battled back to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Prediction: Federer holds all the aces when these two play indoors. Expect him to win in straight sets.
