Federer signed a contract on Wednesday which commits him to the Halle tournament for the rest of his playing career. The Swiss has always opted for the more low-key surroundings of the Gerry Weber Open to prepare for Wimbledon, instead of Queens.
It’s a move which has served him well, he has five Halle titles to his name and did the Halle-Wimbledon double from 2003-2006.
Federer cruised to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jarkko Nieminen in the first round and it should be a similar story against Falla. Federer has beaten the Columbian three times in the past, most recently a couple of weeks ago at the French Open in straight sets.
It is a very decent half of the draw for Federer who has managed to avoid Davydenko, Melzer or Hewitt until the final.
