Roger Federer has announced his decision to pull out of next month’s Shanghai Rolex Masters to rest a few minor injuries.
Federer may be a youthful 30 but his body isn’t what it once was and after a draining couple of months on the tour, the Swiss has taken the decision to miss the Asian indoor swing.
It’s a blow for the organizers with Novak Djokovic almost certainly missing the tournament with a back injury.
“After consultation with my team, I’ve unfortunately decided to pull out of the Shanghai Rolex Masters in order to take some necessary time to rest and recuperate after a long summer,” said Federer. “I have some nagging injuries that I need to address and I look forward to returning to the ATP World Tour as soon as possible.
“I have very fond memories of Shanghai so I will miss this amazing tournament and all my loyal Chinese fans, but I look forward to returning to China next fall.”
Federer reached the Shanghai final last year, losing to Andy Murray but he will now focus on winning one of the few Masters 1000 titles to elude him, the Paris Masters at the start of November.
