Roger Federer still favored to win the 2010 US Open Roger Federer. (credit: franz88) Related Articles See all Tennis News news Share it Facebook Twitter Google+ Shane Lambert - 3 Jul 2010 Tweet The value on the Swiss Maestro is very questionable and the odds are somwhat perplexing based on his recent form - a Grand Slam quarterfinalist. Nadal vs Berdych is available on live streaming with bet365: go to Sports>live streaming. Roger Federer, reportedly, will be idle on tour until the Rogers Cup in Canada, a tournament that takes place in mid-August. Last year Federer fell in the quarterfinals of that Masters Series 1000 event to Jo Wilfried Tsonga although not much was made of the loss at the time. At Wimbledon 2010 Federer had a draw without much of a threat, in theory, through the first FOUR rounds but in practice he was barely able to make the quarters at the All England Club as he was down match-game in the first round to Alejandro Falla with Falla serving. Federer is still a force on tour as he is the holder of the Australian Open title and he's making Slam quarterfinals but he will be 29 years old soon and results really start dropping for tennis stars once they hit a certain point. That point varies for different players but every tennis player is always heading toward a cliff and once they get to that cliff there isn't much they can do to avoid falling off and that's when their ranking at least starts to go out the door. Federer cited injury as a contributing factor to why he was unable to better challenge Berdych in the Wimbledon quarters. Injury problems become more pervasive as you age and while he can still recover and perhaps make a charge to another Grand Slam semifinal - he's very unlikely to win another singles Slam in his life. Even if injury has factored into Federer's current woes it is by no means an excuse as a HUGE reason why Federer picked up his last three singles Slams was due to the 2009 Rafael Nadal injury that inhibited him during the 2009 French Open and that prevented him from contesting Wimbledon 2009, 2 tournaments Federer won. If Nadal and/or Juan Martin Del Potro were 100% for the Aussie, then Federer would have been unlikely to win so while his below standard results may be the result of injury right now he's cleaned up before when other injuries have fallen on other key players. If Federer deserves full credit for winning the 2009 French Open, Wimbledon 2009, and the 2009 Australian Open even though Nadal had bad knees and Del Potro had a bad wrist for the Aussie then full credit should go to Tomas Berdych for knocking Fed out of Wimbledon 2010, whether he was injured or not. Paddy Power have Federer as the +250 (5/2) favorite to win the 2010 US Open, a betting line that has sucker bet written all over it. That line will lengthen over the summer almost for certain and you are better off making your pick AGAINST Federer now with players like Nadal, Murray, or Djokovic. When Federer's price drifts then those players' prices will shorten and you'll have to settle for shorter odds on them if you bet later. You have to wonder how much longer it will be until Federer retires. Once you know what it is like to be on top of the game it can be hard to settle for less. Federer has tons of points to defend at Cincinnati, the US Open, and the Australian Open. If he doesn't do well enough and if his results continue to slide he could be out of the top 10 within 7-8 months. You don't even get dibs on lockers when that happens according to the lady that gave me a tour of Roland Garros a few years ago. Then instead of playing Estoril for the warm up and instead of playing Basel because it's his home tournament, he'll have to play them for the ranking points and tournaments like those just can't be a big enough carrot for a man with more singles Slam titles than anyone.
