Roger Federer could face his Wimbledon conqueror Tomas Berdych in the Canadian Masters this week.

Federer has slipped to number three in the rankings as a result of that defeat and the third seed could play Berdych in the quarter-finals. The Czech also beat Federer in Miami earlier this year and it would be a hotly anticipated match-up.

Federer is a two-time Toronto champion but his last triumph here came in 2006 and his performances in the Masters Series tournaments have declined considerably in the past couple of years.

The Swiss recently hooked up with Paul Annacone and this will be their first tournament together.

If Federer does face Berdych he can take heart from the Czech's indifferent displays in Washington last week. Berdych struggled through a couple of matches before crashing out to Xavier Malisse in the quarters.

Federer has a first round bye and faces either Alejandro Falla or Juan Ignacio Chela in round two.
