Roger Federer cruises into third round past Victor Hanescu - Australian Open 2010

World number one and tournament favourite Roger Federer cruised into round three of the Australian Open on Thursday.

Federer, 11/4 to win in Melbourne needed just an hour and 39 minutes to beat Victor Hanescu in straight sets.

Federer, a three-time champion here, hit 52 winners and was not broken once by Hanescu.

Prince William was in the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena to watch the Swiss beat his Romanian opponent 6-2 6-3 6-2.

Hanescu offered little resistance to Federer, who was happy with his performance.

"I knew the danger of Victor," he said. "He is a good player although maybe he is more accustomed to clay. I am just thrilled to be through."

Federer next faces Albert Montanes of Spain, who he has beaten in both previous meetings.
