Roger Federer will meet Nikolay Davydenko in the quarter-finals at the Australian Open 2010 after the Swiss stunned Australian Lleyton Hewitt on Monday night.

Federer, looking to book his place in a record 23rd consecutive Grand Slam semi-final, impressed as he won 6-2 6-3 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena.

It was a superb performance from the tournament favourite (15/8 to win the Men's singles), who made Hewitt look extremely ordinary in front of his own fans.

Davydenko, who came out of a tough battle with Fernando Verdasco, winning 6-2 7-5 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 6-3, is in great form and has beaten Federer in their last meetings.

But Federer is confident of his chances against the Russian, and believes he can beat the ATP Doha winner, who is 6/1 to go all the way in Melbourne.

"I'm in for a good match for sure, but I obviously favour my chances in a best-of-five-set match," said Federer after beating Hewitt. "We'll see how it goes."

He added: "Obviously he's one of the good return players we have in the game. He moves extremely well and makes it hard."

Federer is the odds-on favourite to win the quarter-final clash, priced on Monday evening at 2/5, with Davydenko 7/4.
