Either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal will win the 2010 US Open at Flushing Meadows.

When one examines the 2010 US Open draws for the top two favorites it should become clear that Rafael Nadal has the edge over Roger Federer.

Even though Nadal still has to win his 4th round match against Feliciano Lopez while Federer's spot in the final 8 is booked, the Swiss Maestro, to make the final, will have to go through Robin Soderling and then likely Novak Djokovic.

While Fed can definitely be counted on to do just that quarterfinal losses at both the French Open and Wimbledon might also be in the back of his mind - and his opponents' minds.

Here are the updated futures odds to win the 2010 US Open outright for the top 8 favorites:

  1. Roger Federer +140 (7/5) BoyleSports
  2. Rafael Nadal +162 (8/5) BetFred
  3. Novak Djokovic +800 (8/1) Blue Square
  4. Robin Soderling +1600 (16/1) BoyleSports
  5. Sam Querrey +4000 (40/1) BoyleSports
  6. Fernando Verdasco +5500 (55/1) Boylesports
  7. Mikhail Youzhny +6600 (66/1) Boylesports
  8. Gael Monfils +6600 (66/1) Boylesports

The value appears to be with Nadal at this point.  He only has to go through Feliciano Lopez and then likely Fernando Verdasco followed by maybe Sam Querrey to make the final.  If Nadal faces the Swiss Maestro in the final, the world number 1 should have tons of confidence in that match having beaten Federer in the 2009 Australian Open and having won 6 of their last 7 heads up matches.

Federer's title hopes would improve drastically if someone like Sam Querrey was able to battle through the weaker half of the draw but things as they are right now, Nadal should be considered the favorite and that's in no small part thanks to Stanislas Wawrinka's upset victory of Andy Murray.
