Roger Federer suffered a quarterfinal loss at Wimbledon 2011 but the Swiss Maestro remains optimistic about his chances looking into the future.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ended Roger Federer's Wimbledon campaign on Wednesday as the Swiss Maestro's 2011 efforts at All England Club came to shocking end despite the fact that he held a two sets to love lead in the match.
When the sixteen time Grand Slam champion was asked if he could still win Grand Slams events he replied “I think I definitely can, yes. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't the case.”
Federer, always positive, has not won a Slam since winning the final of the 2010 Australian Open over Andy Murray. The world number three's current drought is the longest of his career since originally winning Wimbledon for the first time way back in 2003.
Federer did make the final of the recently completed French Open and last season at the US Open he held match points in the semifinal versus Novak Djokovic before faltering.
The five-time champion from Flushing Meadows will now prepare for New York as the hard court season starts after the grass court season. Federer made the final at the Toronto Masters last August and he won the Cincinnati Masters outright.
He'll be looking to do well in those tournaments ahead of play at Flushing Meadows in late August.
