A preview of the match between Roger Federer and Marcel Granollers at the 2011 ATP Dubai event.
Roger Federer, the top seed at ATP Dubai, is into the second round of that tournament as the Swiss Maestro defeated Somdev Devvarman of India on Tuesday 6-3, 6-3. Wednesday's match for Federer will be against Marcel Granollers of Spain, the 53rd ranked player in the world at the moment.
Federer and Granollers do not have a head to head history to examine as they have never faced one another on tour. However the world number 2 does not appear likely to be bothered by Granollers, a player who does not normally threaten top 10 players although he did defeat Robin Soderling in the first round of the 2010 Australian Open.
But looking back at Federer's playing activity over the last year and a bit he has not lost to a player ranked comparably to Granollers since losing to Julien Benneteau, then ranked 49th, at the ATP Paris Masters in 2009.
Federer and Granollers are the last match of the day on center court at Dubai as part of the evening session of Wednesday action, a session that starts not before 7pm Dubai time. There should be a full expectation for a Federer win with a prospective 3rd round match against Latvia's Ernests Gulbis.
In other action Novak Djokovic will face Feliciano Lopez and many are calling for a Djokovic vs Federer showdown in Dubai, with Djokovic the current title holder.
