Results for Federer's match against Igor Andreev.

Roger Federer survived a challenge from Igor Andreev earlier today in the first round of the 2010 Australian Open.  However, the tricky Russian did compete in the match and he certainly drew Federer's attention.

After Andreev took the first set, Federer bounced back with an easy 2nd set victory and appeared to be cruising toward victory in Rod Laver Arena.

However, the story of this match was all the missed opportunities that Andreev had in the third set.  Notably Andreev, at 3-3 and with Federer serving, missed an easy break point opportunity as he approached the net with the whole court completely wide open.  Later in the set, Andreev missed multiple set points and ultimately lost to Federer in a tiebreaker.

Federer ended up winning the match 4-6, 6-2, 7-6, 6-0 and that's all that matters for now.  However looking ahead you have to wonder how Federer will do against a player like Lleyton Hewitt or Nikolay Davydenko, players that aren't as likely to miss the opportunities that Andreev gave up today.

Our recommendation is not to bet Federer at the Australian Open in the win shares market although he should be through to at least the 4th round or the quarterfinals.
