Federer advanced by defeatingr Hanescu in the 2nd round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.
Roger Federer won his first match on Sunday since his victory at the 2010 Australian Open.
Federer defeated Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells although the victory was not as straight forward as many would have expected.
It was the first time Hanescu was able to take an individual set off of Federer in their head to head history which now includes 5 matches.
Roger Federer now draws Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in the third round of the event and Federer will certainly be coming in as a huge favorite again as he has defeated Baghdatis in all 6 of their previous encounters. Baghdatis has taken individual sets off of Federer twice, including the opening set of the 2006 Australian Open men's final, however overall Baghdatis is 2-15 in sets played against Federer.
