Federer crushed Victor Hanescu.

Roger Federer is through to the third round of the Australian Open as he displayed his best tennis by defeating Victor Hanescu of Romania.

The line score for the match was 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.

Hanescu has better fortunes on clay as he has made the quarterfinals of the French Open before and the loss at the Australian Open was entirely predictable and expected.  Hanescu had never been past the 2nd round at the Aussie in this being his 7th attempt and he will have to wait until next year to try his fortunes again.

For Federer the dominant performance should temporarily silence his critics and they should remain silent for a few days as Fed now draws Albert Montanes, the 31 seed in the tournament.  Montanes is barely a threat to the number 1 player in the world and he had to fight back from 2 sets to love down in the second round to qualify for the third.

Federer should cruise in straight sets against Montanes and then either Lleyton Hewitt or Marcos Baghdatis will be waiting.
