Andy Roddick was on top form on Wednesday, eliminating Jarrko Nieminen from the Paris Masters in straight setsAndy Roddick cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Jarrko Nieminen today in the Paris Masters 1000. Roddick only dropped nine points on serve, and never allowed his Finnish opponent to build up any momentum. The American No. 1 is now another step closer to qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals at the end of the month.
“Every match I win is significant at this point…[it] puts more pressure on the guys behind me. I have a pretty good shot no matter how I do here this week”, stated a triumphant Roddick. He went on to say, “I think the last thing you want to do is be in that position where you’re at home cheering against somebody hoping that something bad happens to them. You’d like to win it, do it on your own terms, and that’s something that I’d certainly like to do”. It looks like Roddick wont be letting up until he secures qualification.
Roddick’s resolve will be tested in the next round, where he meets Ernests Gulbis. The young Latvian is capable of springing upsets against the World’s best, so Roddick will have to be on top form once again. Roddick currently has a 2-0 head-to-head record against Gulbis, though the pairing haven’t met since 2009.
