Robin Soderling takes on Ernests Gulbis in the second round of the Rogers Cup.

It is a tricky opening match for Soderling who is competing for the first time since mid-July when he came runner-up in his home town of Bastaad. The fifth seed was in top form on the North American hard courts earlier this year, making back to back semi-finals in Indian Wells and Miami. Similar runs this week and in Cincinnati would see him put Andy Murray under serious pressure for the number four spot.
Gulbis made short work of Thomaz Bellucci in the first round, claiming a 6-1, 6-4 win, something of a surprise given the Latvian's indifferent recent form but then again you can never tell which Gulbis is going to show up.
If he comes out all guns blazing this could be a terrific match. Both players have a cannon of a first serve and huge forehands. Gulbis is the better mover but Soderling's power, accuracy and overall consistency makes it hard to get him on the run.
