Robin Soderling lives to fight another day against Bernard Tomic on day six of Wimbledon.
Soderling is a tad fortunate to still be in the tournament after former champion Lleyton Hewitt pushed him to the very brink during their second round clash on Thursday. Soderling had to come back from two sets down for the first time in his career before clinching victory 6-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
"I think I was a little bit unlucky to not win the first set. I had some chances. And then he played really well in the second," Soderling told the press afterwards. "But, you know, you just have to start over, like trying to take one point at a time and see it as a new match, you know, there's still a chance to win. I didn't want to go off the court feeling that I didn't give a hundred percent, you know. Win or lose, doesn't matter."
He has another tricky match against teenage Aussie qualifier Bernard Tomic. Brimming with talent, Tomic could go right to the top of the men's game and was hailed as the saviour of Australian tennis a few years ago but he has had a few run-ins with the disciplinary bodies since then and has been accused of having a poor work ethic. However he has begun to turn things around this year, beating Feliciano Lopez en route to round three of the Aussie Open and then qualifying here, before knocking out Nikolay Davydenko in round one..
Also standing at 6'4, Tomic has a huge game and can match Soderling for power but maybe not consistency. He may also be a little tired after coming back from two sets down to beat Igor Andreev in round two.
Look for Soderling's experience to see him through in straight sets.
