Robin Soderling will be hoping for another sensational run in this year’s French Open

Robin Soderling has finished as the runner-up at the last two French Opens, and he’ll surely be doing his utmost to finally go one better and win the title. It will be intriguing to see how he performs this week, and he could be a contender once again if things work out in his favour. That said, the battering he took at the hands of Novak Djokovic in Rome earlier in the month was far from encouraging.

Soderling is scheduled to start here on Tuesday with a first round contest against Benjamin Becker of Germany. Becker hasn’t had the best of years to date, and has only won three of his twelve top level matches. The world No. 68 is going to have to produce an outstanding performance in order to get the better of the Swede here.

Soderling has a 3-0 head to head record against Becker prior to this match. Only one of these matches was on clay, though Soderling should be feeling confident having won all of his previous matches against Becker in straight sets. Soderling will have to be at his best in order to defend his ranking points over the next two weeks, but it looks like he should be able to get through to round two unless Becker does something out of the ordinary.
