Robin Soderling takes on Albert Montanes in the fourth round of the US Open.

Soderling is just a game away from a potential quarter-final clash against world number one Roger Federer. The Swede will be looking to seal a convincing win over Montanes to send a message to Federer that he's a serious threat.

Soderling has been steadily moving through the gears after going five sets in round one. He made short work of rising Dutch star Thiemo De Bakker 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday.

Montanes has enjoyed  a stand-out 2010 season, winning titles in Estoril and Stuttgart but most of his success has been on clay. He's been fortunate to have had a straightforward passage in New York with Kei Nishikori retiring after just a set and three games on their third round match.  

They have played three times before with Soderling winning two of them. He won 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of last year's US Open and again 6-4, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 at Roland Garros this year.
