Robin Soderling has been forced to miss Stockholm Open this week as he is still suffering from glandular fever.
Soderling last competed back at the start of July, winning a clay-court title in the Swedish town of Bastad. However later that month the former world number four went down with glandular fever and he's still battling the illness.
Soderling had been hoping to make a low key return in Stockholm this week, the biggest tournament in his country but doctors have decided that it's too soon.
'I’m extremely disappointed and sad right now. Playing in Stockholm is very special for me and it’s a title I still miss and dream about," he said. "I made an attempt to train, but my body just could not do it. I felt worse after practice and so had to make a tough decision to not play in Stockholm."
"I have to think long term and plan to play tennis for years to come. I believe the best days are in front of me. I will do everything I can to get through this difficult time and come back stronger and more motivated than ever."
Soderling joins Roger Federer and Andy Roddick on the list of leading players who have been struck down by glandular fever in recent years.
