This is another spicy quarter-final encounter between one of the most aesthetically pleasing players on tour and one of the game's most dogged counter-punchers. Both know that the winner of this one will probably make the final.
Robredo captured his sole indoor title here in 2007 when he impressively outlasted Andy Murray in the final and he's looked pretty good so far this week, particularly against the powerful Denis Istomin who he saw off 6-4, 6-2.
“I played well and things got easier as I converted the break points in each set," the Spaniard said afterwards. "I got a bit scared at the end of the first set as he started to play really well. He is a very dangerous player."
Gasquet was involved in a marathon dogfight against Paul-Henri Mathieu, winning 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. Gasquet was thankful for a fine serving performance as the rest of his game was fairly average at times and he never managed to break the Mathieu serve.
Gasquet and Robredo have not played for three years and never indoors. Robredo leads the head-to-head 2-1, winning their last clash in four sets at the Australian Open back in 2007.
