It is often hard to know what to expect with either of these players, two of the most talented yet frustratingly unpredictable individuals on the tour.
Gulbis has made big strides towards fulfilling his abundant talent in 2010, reaching a career high ranking of 25. However since the clay court season his form has slowly evaporated and he lost to Dmitry Tursunov in round one of the Japan Open last week.
Gasquet fared little better, losing to Tursunov a round later in Tokyo. Gasquet has been unhappy with his ball striking from the back of the court recently and has been relying on his serve and brilliant athleticism at the net to get him through matches.
They have played just once before, Gasquet winning in three sets on clay last year but there is little you can read into that. Going by current form, our prediction is for Gasquet to edge this one but only just.
